Advection is a term used in Meteorology. It’s defined as the transport of one scalar over the horizontal or vertical or both planes in a three dimensional referential system. In weather temperature advection is particularly important as it’s useful to infer about a future time step atmosphere state (weather prediction). A scalar is advected by the wind, this can be by horizontal or vertical winds or both at the same time. Horizontal advection of temperature refers to the horizontal wind components’ transport over a surface of temperature, whether vertical advection of temperature refers to the vertical wind component transport in altitude of temperature.
